HTC will roll out Android 2.3 to the Desire HD and Incredible S in the UK next week, it has been announced.
The OS update will be available for owners of unlocked handsets on May 16th, the carrier confirmed via its Facebook page. Alas, owners of network branded phones – so that’s most of you – will have a bit longer to wait.
HTC stated: “We’ve been pushing this really hard and are pleased to announce that we are aiming to have the HTC Gingerbread update for unlocked HTC Desire HD and HTC Incredible S models available on 16th May 2011.
“For those waiting for their specific operator update, rest assured that we’re working very closely with each operator to get this just right and will update you as soon as we possibly can. Once again, we really appreciate your support and patience on this.”
New features Gingerbread will bring to the Froyo-powered handsets include a much improved virtual keyboard and better copy and paste.
The OS bump, which arrives over four months after the latest Android iteration debuted on the Google Nexus S, will also bring with it performance optimisations, so that your smartie runs faster and more smoothly.
News of HTC’s plans come after Vodafone reportedly began an update for Desire HD customers last week. Meanwhile, 3 expects to have it available some time this month.
