HTC has begun pushing out Gingerbread to Desire HD and Wildfire S owners in Europe - if you’ve got an unlocked handset, that is.
It’s not yet 100 per cent clear what features the OTA update will bring to the handsets. However, at the very least you’re likely to get the new virtual keyboard, plus enhanced app management and improved battery life.
Owners will be alerted to the availability of the update directly. And as is always the case with such things, because of the size of the file the phone maker recommends that users carry out the download over a Wi-Fi connection.
HTC also advises that back up your personal data before hand, just in case there’s any unforeseen mishaps.
Most UK networks have yet to give HTC Desire HD owners a definite date for their scheduled update to Gingerbread, amid the usual delays caused by carrier testing.
However, 3 looks likely to be the first to get it out to its Desire HD-using customers, having last month revealed that it expects to be able to send it their way some time around the end of May.
