HTC is prepping a Window Phone 7 (WP7) cameraphone powerhouse, leaked photos reveal, as it bids to see off the challenge from Nokia WP7 handsets due later this year.
Nokia has form with loading its highest-end smarties with cracking cameras – as the much-maligned N8 attests. However, if Espoo thought that loading its WP7 handsets with similarly lavish snappers will be enough to mark them out from the competition it might to have to think again once it’s seen HTC’s effort.
According to industry insider Eldar Murtazin, who has sourced leaked snaps of the handset, HTC’s as yet unnamed smartphone will pack a top of the range 12 megapixel lens – putting it up there with the best of the best for camera-smarts.
However, in consoling news for Nokia, Murtazin didn’t sound massively impressed with the phone’s software. Although, the fact that it’s no doubt at any early stage of development means that could be a mite unfair.
News of HTC’s plans comes after it last week emerged that the first Nokia WP7 phones are scheduled to hit the market in the autumn to coincide with Microsoft’s first major platform update, WP 7.1 – AKA Mango.
