Android 3.1 Honeycomb launch delayed? Galaxy Tab 10.1 too?

Android 3.1 won’t drop until August in Europe, an influential analyst has claimed, giving Apple a longer window to capitalise on its current status as top dog in the tablet market.

The new version of Google’s Honeycomb operating system is making its debut in the US on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on July 17th, a release from Sammy confirmed today.

However, according to Eldar Murtazin of Mobile-Review.com, Google has taken the decision to postpone the release of the OS in Europe until a month later – citing unexplained “issues” with the 3.1 version of the platform.

He tweeted: "Launch of Google android 3.1 postponed to august in most countries. You couldnt buy new tablets with it until this time. Good news for aapl.”

A subsequent update from Murtazin claimed that this will mean that the 10.1 and 8.9 versions of the Galaxy Tab will also be delayed until August.

News of developments comes amid reports of slow sales for the initial slew of Android tablets, with some market analysts claiming that the Motorola Xoom sold as little as 2,500 units in the weeks after it dropped.
