Carphone Warehouse has announced that it will be the sole vendor to offer the LG Optimus 3D when it goes on sale in the UK next week.
Set to become the first-ever glasses-free 3D handset to arrive on these shores, the Android powered Optimus 3D will be released exclusively via Carphone Warehouse and its partner chain Best Buy on June 27th.
It’s not been revealed how long the exclusivity will last, but those looking to avoid the launch day rush can preorder the handset now for £499.95 SIM-free. Or you can grab it free with a two-year contract from £35 per month.
Graham Stapleton, Chief Commercial Officer at Carphone, said: "We're proud to be able to offer the world's first 3D smartphone exclusively at The Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy.
"It is a remarkable piece of technology and I'm confident that our customers will be as impressed and excited as we are."
Look mom, no glasses!
With Android at the heart of it, the Optimus 3D is home to a 4.3-inch touchscreen display that delivers stereoscopic viewing without requiring those silly specs to get the effect, much like the Nintento 3DS.
It also packs a blazing fast 1GHz dual core OMAP 4 processor under the hood and a five-megapixel dual-lens snapper that shoots HD snaps and clips in 3D, which can be viewed back on the phone or on a 3D HDTV via the handset’s HDMI output.
The only downside is that at launch the handset will run on the ageing, version 2.2 - aka FroYo - of Android, rather than Gingerbread. However, LG assures us that an update will follow shortly after the phone’s release.
