Mobile browser Skyfire has been downloaded over 7.5 million times on Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android powered devices, the company has revealed.
Released in November last year, Skyfire was met with massive commercial acclaim – raking in a whopping $1m from the App Store within the first weekend of its release alone.
This was in no small part thanks to its support for Flash content without requiring Flash to be actually installed on the device - much to the joy of iFans. This is made possible by Skyfire’s servers, which convert Flash elements of a page to the iPhone-friendly HTML5 on the fly.
Faster rendering of pages and the ability to compress videos by up to 75 per cent has also been a major USP for the browser, which aims to appeal to users who are on a restricted or expensive data plan.
Skyfire is available to download right now from the App Store for £1.79 and Android Market for Free.
