Sony Ericsson (SE) may be planning to release an update to the latest smartphone optimised release of Android, version 2.3 – aka Gingerbread – for Xperia X10 handsets starting this week.
In a reply to a customer query on its official Facebook page, SE gave the clearest hint yet as to when X10 owners can expect to receive the hotly awaited update.
“The launch of the 2.3 software for X10 is getting closer, and the planned release date is approx. w30. The date could still be changed, since the launch is depending on operators' approval. The software will be rolled out continuously, just like the earlier 2.1 release. The exact launch date is depending on market and operators' approval, so it will unfortunately not be possible to give precise information on launch dates for each market/operator. You will get more information once the roll out has started.”
In case you’re trying to work it out, ‘w30’, as in week 30, is this week. That means if all goes well with operator testing, the rollout should begin in the next few days.
We’ll be confirming with networks in the UK individually to confirm a firm release date and will let you know as soon as we do. So keep ‘em peeled.
UPDATE: O2 has confirmed with us that Gingerbread for the Xperia X10 is scheduled for release this month. Unfortunately all other major networks have no information to share at present.
