Rumours that the iPhone 5 could have super fast mobile web access gained a new layer of credence today after snaps emerged Apple has been fitting out its retail network with 4G internet technology.
A snap of an unnamed Apple outlet in the US being fitted with next-generation, 4G connectivity was sent to Engadget by an unnamed source. The image, which has since been removed at the behest of the tipster, purportedly showed 4G equipment that has been deployed by carrier AT&T in the US.
However, before you get too excited, we’d best warn you that there’s zero chance of a UK model having 4G support and the connectivity speeds of over 100Mb it can deliver. We’ve got a wait of years ahead of us until our networks get around to that.
But before you go getting all downhearted, it’s not all bad news. Mooted specs for the iPhone 5 suggest we’re in for something special this time around, whichever part of the world you live in.
Among the rumoured specs are a bezel to bezel screen, an eight-megapixel camera and a new kind of screen coating that could banish fingerprint smudges forever.
