OnLive, a cloud-based gaming service that lets players stream video games much like they can with movies and music, is finally launching in Blighty next month.
The service, which is already a massive success in the US, will be the first of its kind in the UK to offer gamers instant access to hundreds of video game titles without requiring a physical disc or console.
This is because games are stored on OnLive’s servers and delivered in real-time over the internet to a client device. And since these are rendered on the servers, too, they can be played on even low-end hardware, including tablets such as Android and iPad.
"OnLive will utterly transform gaming in the UK,” declared OnLive Founder and CEO Steve Perlman.
“No discs, big downloads or specialised hardware needed. OnLive gives you the latest games instantly, anytime, anywhere on HDTV, PC, Mac, as well as iPad, Android tablets. High-performance gaming as accessible as streaming video, with unique social features such as massive spectating with voice chat and Facebook integration.”
The service will be available in the UK starting September 22nd and will require a subscription, pricing for which has yet to be revealed. If you don’t have a PC, Mac or tablet, however, you will still be able to play using an OnLive box to be sold for £99.
