HTC looks set to take the fight back to Samsung for the crown of top Android manufacturer crown, with a new smartphone that’s sure to excite to even the most jaded smartfans.
Codenamed ‘Runnymede 2’, the hitherto unseen handset features a massive 4.7-inch Super LCD display, a 1.5GHz single-core MSM8255 processor and Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread out of the box with HTC’s latest Sense 3.5 UI slathered on top.
It’s also home to an eight-megapixel camera sporting a wide-angle lens with a 28mm focal length and f2.2 aperture compared to the iPhone 4’s f2.8 – making it rather impressive as a camera phone too. Of course, this records videos as well in 720p HD at 60fps (more than twice that of most handsets), And for video calls, there’s also a front facing 1.3-megapixel webcam on board.
Other features include 16GB of storage (a 32GB version will also be available), DLNA support, Bluetooth 3.0 and a so-called ‘dust-proof’ design that measures less than 10mm in thickness.
That’s not all, though. The handset will come bundled with a pair of Beats headphones (not earphones). These, as many of you probably know, are pretty legendary nowadays, and expensive, too. So it’s great to say the least to see HTC going the extra mile to appeal to music fans.
The Runnymede is expected to launch in the UK this holiday for an estimated £530 for the 16GB unlocked model and £30 more for the 32GB version. No word yet on which carriers will offer it on contract but expect these to be announced soon.
