The long and at-times painful wait for the next iPhone is almost over, an Apple employee has confirmed, as release date rumours for the fifth-gen kit continue to swirl around the inter-ether like so much techy confetti.
According to an unnamed insider at the Cupertino-based tech giant cited by the New York Times’ tech and business blog, the handset is now “just weeks away” from landing on store shelves.
Alas, our tech deepthroat wasn’t any more specific than that. But his gen ties in broadly with leaks from elsewhere indicating a mid to late October due date.
In other iNews, a fresh leak today has revealed that Apple could opt for a larger design this time around, complete with an all-new, elongated homebutton that might be used for multi-touch gestures.
Mooted specs also doing the rounds include an eight megapixel camera, a four-inch display – up from the current-generation kit’s 3.5-inches – and the same A5 dual core processor that stars in the iPad 2.
