A further sign that the long, long wait for the iPhone 5 is almost over arrived today, amid supply chain heat indicating that Apple’s manufacturing partners are ready to ship said device this month.
According to Taiwanese business site DigiTimes, Foxconn is currently dispatching some 150,000 units of Apple’s next-gen handset per day. Assuming that work rate is maintained, that equates to a whopping 4.5 million iPhone 5’s born in September alone.
Interestingly, it seems that long-term partner Foxconn is shouldering the lion’s share of the production detail for this year. Pegatron, which is expected to manufacture around 15 per cent of total iPhone 5’s, isn’t set to ship its smarties until 2012.
An exact due date for the massively anticipated kit remains a mystery, with some positing that the phone won’t actually hit retail until October or November.
Similarly shrouded in mystery is what to expect in the specs department. However, if rumours are to be believed it’ll be smaller and lighter than iPhone 4 and pack an eight-megapixel camera and a four-inch screen.
