Samsung is not done announcing new handsets for this year it seems, as a new as-yet-unannounced product was sighted amongst the finalists for the CTIA 2011 Hot for the Holidays Awards.
Unearthed by a GSMArena tipster, the device, described only as “a product to be announced from Samsung Mobile, Samsung Telecommunications America”, was listed as a nominee for the Gamer & Entertainment Enthusiast category alongside the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Tab 10.1.
Samsung has already announced the Galaxy Note and numerous handsets in its Wave range, and it’s unlikely to launch another Galaxy S before early next year. Combined with recent rumours, we’re only compelled to think this could be the Nexus Prime, which all evidence so far suggests is being manufactured by the Korean giant and is anticipated to land sometime in November.
What interests us is that the device, whatever it is, is supposedly gaming and entertainment-focussed. Rumours have been doing the rounds that Sammy might be cooking up a 3D smartphone, which is not beyond the realms of possibility considering two of its main rivals, LG and HTC have already released theirs. Not to mention the fact that Samsung makes 3D TVs and is also more recognisable as a brand to push the technology.
In any case, colour us excited. The awards ceremony will take place on October 12th, so we will find out soon enough what this mystery product really is.
