Amazon could be prepping a voice control feature a la Siri on the iPhone 4S, after buying out a voice to text start-up.
According to the CLT Blog of North Carolina, an online Securities and Exchange Commission filing suggests the online retail behemoth has acquired Charlotte-based Yap in an undisclosed deal.
Although unconfirmed by Amazon, the move would clear a path for advanced voice command functionality to make its way to the company’s Android-powered Kindle Fire tablet, as well as its monster-selling e-readers.
However, any hope that it might be on the Kindle Fire any time soon, thus giving the slate a real USP over the iPad 2, should be tempered by the fact that Yap’s tech is reportedly in fairly nascent stages of development.
Although derided as nothing new by grizzled tech watchers, Siri’s capacity to allow users to conduct searches, schedule appointments and reminders and ask BIG metaphysical questions, has helped the iPhone 4S to record-breaking sales since launching in September.
