Sony Ericsson (SE) has announced that from now on owners of its Xperia range of smartphones are entitled to a whopping 50GB of cloud storage from Box.net.
The London-based phone-maker, which has already confirmed all its Xperia handsets released in 2011 will receive an upgrade to the new Ice Cream Sandwich release of Android, is clearly in a generous mood, outdoing rival HTC in the cloud storage stakes – which has a similar deal on offer with Dropbox for 5GB of space.
SE stated: “Until 31st December 2012, Xperia owners get an exclusive offer of 50GB (yes 50, not five) free storage on Box.net’s cloud.
“Simply log in to your Box.net account from any Sony Ericsson Xperia Android handset before December 31st 2012. That’s it. Once you have done that you have 50GB free cloud storage on your account for life”.
50GB of free Box storage for life? Colour us impressed. It’s not clear yet whether you will be able to access the storage via a Box.net client on another non-SE smartphone. But we see no reason why you can’t. And it may just be incentive enough to invest on a modestly priced Xperia this Christmas.
