Flash fans still trying to cope with the platform’s demise on mobiles will be glad to know it will have at least one hurrah for anyone who owns an Android Ice Cream Sandwich device.
Just as promised, Adobe has released an updated Flash Player, version 11.1 – compatible with Android 4.0 – which for the time being at least, is only available on the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
Adobe posted: “This update to Adobe Flash Player 11 includes compatibility with Android 4 supported devices, performance improvements and bug fixes related to security and stability.”
It is highly likely this will be the last major update for Flash on Android. Adobe will continue to provide security updates and bug fixes as necessary, but any further developments will be shelved as it prepares to ‘aggressively contribute’ to HTML5.
Adobe Flash 11.1 is available to download right now from the Android Market.
