Grand Theft Auto 3, hailed as one of the defining titles of the sandbox genre, is finally available to play on Android and iOS powered devices.
Rockstar Games has released a special edition of the critically acclaimed action-adventure title for Google and Apple’s platforms to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the franchise since its transition from the original top-down view to 3D.
In case you've never played the game before (all the more reason to pick it up right away), GTA III is set in the fictional metropolis Liberty City that’s loosely based on New York City. Without giving away too much, the story kicks off right after a bank heist goes horribly wrong and your very survival is at stake, which consequently means you must ally yourself with some very shady, but unique characters to work your way up the crime ladder and seek revenge for a betrayal that won’t be soon forgotten.
The entire game is played from a third-person view, just like on the consoles. The controls are directly overlaid on the screen and, from the time we’ve had with it so far, work brilliantly on a solid framerate on the iPhone 4S.
Grand Theft Auto III is available to download right now on the App Store for £2.99 for devices running iOS 4.3 or later and on Android Market for devices powered by Android 2.1 and up for £3.23.
