There are now more than 250 million active Android devices worldwide, Google has confirmed in its Q4 earnings report.
The search giant’s platform grew by 50 million since November last year and had phenomenal success over the holiday period with nearly a million devices activated each day in the second half of Q4.
Even more impressively, the Android Market has crossed 11 billion downloads to date, a billion more than Google aimed more with its 10 billion promotion in December.
The success of Android as well as other major products and services has helped quarterly income soar to a record £6.45 billion and looks to get even better as it prepares to consolidate its portfolio better in 2012.
"Google had a really strong quarter ending a great year. Full year revenue was up 29 per cent, and our quarterly revenue blew past the $10 billion mark for the first time,” said CEO Larry Page.
“I’m very excited about what we can do in 2012 – there are tremendous opportunities to help users and grow our business.”
