The iPhone 5 is the year’s most anticipated gadget, a survey has revealed, leaving its nearest smartphone rival, the Samsung Galaxy S2, trailing by some margin.
In a poll conducted by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, 74 per cent of respondents named the iPhone 5 as the gadget they’re most looking forward to in 2012, sealing top spot in the site’s rundown.
That was well out in front of the Android powered Galaxy S3 from the House of Sammy, which is on the most-wanted lists of a relatively paltry 54 per cent of those polled.
Other tech wonders making the list were the iPad 3, which popped up in position number-two with 71 per cent, Nintendo’s new console challenger the WiiU at third place with 68 per cent and the unnamed Google-branded tablet (65 per cent).
Rounding off the top ten were Apple TV (62 per cent), the Amazon Kindle Fire (59 per cent), the PlayStation Vita (55 per cent), the as yet unconfirmed Samsung Galaxy S3 (54 per cent), Google TV (51 per cent) and Intel Ultrabooks (47 per cent).
Intriguingly, poll participants who are looking ahead to the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 named the features on board as the reason, despite the fact that none of these are confirmed.
That suggests to us that consumers' faith in the iRumour mill's capacity to yield the truth remains undimmed, despite the slew of mooted features that were missing from the iPhone 4S but which the press had deemed dead-certs to figure.
