Samsung has announced it has shipped more than 35 million smartphones in the last financial quarter, driving the company to record profit in 2011.
The Korean electronics giant posted an operating profit of £2.9 billion in Q4 (October to December), seeing earnings increase more than 70 per cent compared to the same period last year.
The achievement was largely fuelled by the company’s mobile division, which during the course of the year brought several Android heavy hitters to market, namely the Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 slate.
Operating profit for the whole of 2011 totalled approx. £9 billion and is expected to stay on course for an equally great, if not better, year, with the inevitable unveiling of the Galaxy S3, plus newer models of its best-selling mid-range kits.
Whatever Sammy’s planning for the year ahead, we will surely find out more when it takes centre stage at the Mobile World Congress expo next month.
