Apple appears to be performing some renovation work on the iPad App Store on the eve of its much-hyped media gathering.
Among the highlights are a new top apps chart that scrolls sideways instead of vertically, and from early impressions at least, loads faster, too.
Additionally, a new category called Catalogs has cropped up out of nowhere and is already populated by dozens of apps that, as the name suggests, are catalogues of some description.
The changes come just in time for Apple’s media event at 6pm (GMT) tonight when it is expected to officially unveil the new iPad.
Joaquin Ruiz, CEO of Catalog Spree, whose app is now listed under Catalogs, believes the creation of the new category is a clear sign Apple is preparing for a major announcement.
"Adding an app category is not something that Apple does lightly and we believe Apple's decision reflects the importance of this usecase in the Apple App Store ecosystem,” Ruiz said in an email.
