New Nokia Lumia update triples battery life

Nokia is currently rolling out a new firmware update (not Windows Phone) for the Lumia 800 that promises to address the handset’s lingering battery life issues once and for all.

Firmware 1600.2487.8107.12070 – more commonly referred as just '12070' – brings numerous performance optimisations and power management enhancements that Nokia claims extend the phone’s battery life to an impressive 25 to 30 hours - nearly threefold what’s currently experienced by some users.

The update was originally due to land on April 18th, but has clearly been brought forward to alleviate growing frustration among early adopters who complained of the handset being unable to last the day on a full charge.

However, it won’t be available everywhere at once and will instead be rolled out in batches starting today, following three more on April 4th, 11th and 18th.

In addition to battery improvements, the update also adds extra bass to the audio and ensures soft keys illuminate at all brightness settings.

Full details of the software fix can be found at Nokia’s blog post here.
