Samsung Galaxy S2 Android ICS update dated March 15th

Samsung Israel has officially confirmed that the latest, tastiest Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) iteration of Android will hit Galaxy S2 smartphones starting March 15th.

A Samsung official announced the due date for the hotly awaited update via the company’s Israeli Facebook, before being mysteriously pulled.

The translated post states the following: "We promised that we are working about that. You have waited patiently. And it's coming in March 15th: Android version 4, ICS, for tens of thousands of the Galaxy S2 owners that purchased it from the cellular company in Israel or directly from us. We are very excited in here towards the launch, hope that you too :)"

Last week, we reported, citing anonymous sources at Samsung’s global marketing and advertising agency, that ICS would be rolled out to devices between mid and late March. The timing of that and this latest slippage tells us an upgrade is definitely on the horizon. With any luck, a global release shouldn't be far behind.

Better yet, the post mentions the update will be available to handsets purchased both directly (as in unlocked) and on a cellular network, which suggests there may not be much of a wait for contact customers to receive it.

This is not always the case, of course, as operators typically take their sweet time to test updates for compatibility with services.
