The threequel to Samsung’s best-selling Galaxy S range of smartphones could hit store shelves as early as April, sources abreast of developments have revealed.
ZDNet Korea has been reportedly told by anonymous tipsters at Samsung’s global marketing and advertising agency, Cheil Worldwide, that the hotly anticipated kit will go on sale shortly after being officially announced next month.
From what we can gather, Samsung plans to beat Apple to the punch by giving the S3 a solid head start in establishing a market foothold before the inevitable arrival of the iPhone 5.
The South Korean giant decided to skip appearing at last month’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) altogether, revealing it would be hosting its own event soon to showcase the S2’s successor. The company has already confirmed the phone would be released ‘before summer’, which could probably mean before June when annual iPhone refreshes typically drop.
Alas, not much else was given away as to what new features the S3 is going to bring. However, based on recent leaks and rumours, at least, it’s mooted to sport a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, a 1.5HGHz Exynos quad core processor and an eight-megapixel camera.
Keep ‘em peeled for more Galaxy S3 news and announcements in the coming weeks.
