The Galaxy S3 is already on course to become Samsung’s fastest-selling smartphone, as retailers and networks rush to secure stock of the soon-to-be blockbuster blower.
According to mobile sector analyst Eldar Murtazin, the hitherto unseen and unspecc’d S3 has seen unprecedented interest from carriers and the likes of Carphone Warehouse, leaving it on schedule to surpass the 20-million-selling S2 as Sammy's most in-demand handset.
Murtazin, who edits Russian site Mobile Review and boasts an enviable track record in breaking news as well as a web of contacts, also corroborated reports that the phone will ditch its predecessor’s all-plastic shell for a ceramic backing.
And in news to excite anyone with a handset upgrade due soon, he claimed that after months of waiting the S3 is now finally ready to enter production.
This tallies with the received wisdom among tech-watchers that the phone, originally expected to launch back in February at Mobile World Congress, will now tip up in June or July.
Murtazin tweeted: “SGS3 finalized [sic] and go to production. Preorders from operators/retailers are really highest for all Galaxy line history (finally - ceramic).”
Speculation over the S3’s spec sheet has been rife for months now. Features deemed most likely to make the cut include a brawny quad core processor, a 4.8-inch display of the Super AMOLED Plus variety and a 12-megapixel camera.
