Sony Xperia Play Android ICS update beta released

Sony has released a beta edition of Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) for the Xperia Play, in order to get users’ feedback before the final release.

The beta is part of the phone-maker’s plans to find out how games on the Play work with the new OS refresh before making it available to the wider public.

However, it warns that it’s strictly for developers with the technical know-how of installing ROMs, as failing to follow the correct steps could render your precious smartie into a doorstop.

“When it comes to Xperiia Play, we do know that some games will need to be optimised to work fine with ICS,” Sony admitted.

“Of course, big parts of the work with games are already initiated, and we work close with several game partners on this. However, we would still like to get additional input from you, to get your opinion on how the content and games work on your Xperia Play.”

Alas, Sony did not reveal when the final version of ICS would be released for the Play. However, with any luck it should be rolled out in the next month or two.

Download link and instructions for the ICS beta be found here.
