The Daily Telegraph is set to launch an official iPhone and Android app to provide readers with a more multimedia-focussed news experience on the move.
Designed specially for the small form factors of mobile devices, the apps will offer an array of content from live and breaking news to stocks and financial data, photos and videos.
Sports will also be a major part of the package. In addition to live football scores, results, fixtures and tables, the apps will offer highlights from the English Premier League, courtesy of ESPN, plus goal videos as the match is played.
It’s worth noting, however, that the ESPN Goals app already provides the above free of charge, whereas The Telegraph app will require a subscription.
It will be free to download for existing subscribers of the print and iPad editions, though, while new customers will be given a month’s free trial when they register with the paper.
Edward Roussel, Executive Editor, Digital, at Telegraph Media Group, said: “The launch of these two new apps is a significant step forward in our strategy of delivering our award-winning journalism on all the key digital devices.
“The apps have been designed to also give readers attractive new features including Premier League video and stats, a customisable homepage and offline reading at the touch of a fingertip.”
Release dates for The Telegraph apps will be revealed in the weeks to come.
