Galaxy S3 to be template for Samsung’s first Windows Phone 8 handset

Samsung’s soon-to-land Galaxy S3 will reportedly be the basis for its first handset powered by the next major iteration of Windows Phone, a source abreast of matters has claimed.

Dubbed the Focus S2, the handset will be largely identical to the Galaxy S3 in design and boast similar specs, such as a 4.7-inch HD display, a 12-megapixel camera, NFC (Near Field Communications), a dedicated camera shutter release and use of Samsung’s as-yet unofficial cloud storage solution.

The source says creating a Windows Phone version of the S3 will be "easy as pie" thanks to improvements made in the upcoming OS refresh.

What’s not revealed is whether the Focus S2 will house a quad-core processor that’s rumoured to feature on the Galaxy S3. Microsoft boss Stephen Elop recently said multi-core phones are a waste of battery life, so it will be interesting to see whether he’s changed his tune already.

Samsung is due to officially lift the lid off the Galaxy S3 this Thursday at its Unpacked event in London. Stay tuned for our full coverage of developments.
