Amazon is reportedly working on a larger version of its hot-selling Kindle Fire tablet, in a bid to take the fight directly to Apple’s iPad.
Citing ‘industry sources’, the tech types at Digitimes are claiming that a 10.1-inch Kindle Fire will drop sometime in Q3 as Amazon prepares to undercut its ‘regular-sized’ rival in the burgeoning tablet market.
With more than half the market share for Android tablets in the US already in its pocket, the affordably priced slate looks like the challenger most likely to put a dent on the iPad’s continued supremacy.
However, the Kindle Fire has yet to land here in the UK, making us question the credibility of this rumour. But it makes sense that Amazon would want to press its advantage and go after Apple with a degree of momentum on its side.
Word on the street is the online giant is working with partners to pack the tablet with a hefty amount of content before launching here, which has been one of the major factors for its success stateside.
