Apple has tampered with the iPhone 4S’s Siri voice app to ensure it no longer names a rival phone as the best smartie on the market, Nokia has alleged.
Last week, reports emerged that when iPhone 4S owners asked Siri ‘what is the best smartphone ever?’, somewhat embarrassingly for Apple, it suggested the Nokia Lumia 900.
Not any more it doesn’t, though. Posit the same question now and Siri knowingly and incredulously answers: “You’re kidding, right?”.
Ask again, and the response is similarly wry, with the personal digital assistant throwing your question back at you by asking ‘Wait, there are other phones?”.
Nokia claims the change is the work of Apple, who were shamed by Siri’s endorsement of the Windows Phone-powered Lumia 900. And let's face it, as well they might be.
Nokia spokesperson Tracey Postill told the Sydney Herald: “Apple position Siri as the intelligent system that’s there to help, but clearly if they don’t like the answer, they override the software.”
Siri’s previous assessment of the Lumia 900 was based on customer reviews aggregated by the Wolphram Alpha search engine that powers Siri searches.
