The Samsung Galaxy S3 will be the monster-sized screen-toting smartphone that tech-world rumours suggest, a display protector appears to reveal.
For months, leaks around the S3 indicated it is a much more capacious device than its predecessor, the S2, which rocks 4.3-inches worth of Super AMOLED Plus display.
The S3 is expected to pack in between 4.5-inches and 4.8-inches of screen real estate, in keeping with the current vogue for super-sizing Android smartphones.
Today, it seem that the display will be towards the top end of that estimate – at least that’s if the protector sourced by Unwire HK’s is the real deal.
When overlaid on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus' 4.65-inch screen, the S3 protector is a far from snug fit.
But by our estimates it doesn't overshoot the Nexus by much more than 0.2-inches. But that still roughly equates to a 4.8-inches-plus display that almost pushes the S3 into tablet territory.
Interestingly, the protector also leaves a notably large gap for a long, front-facing button at the foot of the screen.
That tallies with recent speculation that Samsung will break with the design of rival Android Ice Cream Sandwich-powered phones and opt for a reassuringly physical, traditional home button.
Either way we’ll find out soon enough, with Samsung set to unveil the S3 on May 3rd. We’ll be present and correct at the press call, so make sure you keep it locked for all the gen.
