Not content with the success of its ‘phablet’, the Galaxy Note, Samsung now looks to be planning a tablet device featuring two screens in a folding mechanism, a patent filing suggests.
Illustrations reveal a device that looks remarkably similar to the Nintendo 3DS and the Sony Tablet P in a clamshell form factor. Although the latter is having a hard time gaining traction with consumers, Samsung clearly thinks there’s a market for a similar-shaped slate.
There also appears to be a strange-looking accessory beside it that, although it doesn’t quite resemble a stylus, is obviously separable from the device and has some significant purpose.
While many patented kits never end up seeing the light of day, we think there’s a good chance this one might, given that Samsung hasn’t had much luck with its regular-shaped Galaxy Tab range.
The Galaxy Note, on the other hand, has shown there’s an untapped segment in the market for more unconventional designs, with sales in excess of five million units since landing last October.
