Sony unveils Xperia Go and Xperia Acro S water-resistant phones

Not content with its single-lettered efforts, the S, P and U, Sony has announced two more additions, the Xperia Go and Xperia Acro S, to its growing family of Android smartphones.

Sony Xperia Go

The Go, known as the Xperia Advance stateside, features a 3.5-inch IP67-certified water-resistant display with a scratchproof mineral glass surface and ‘wet finger tracking’, a 1GHz dual-core processor and a five-megapixel camera.

The Acro S, meanwhile, is the European-variant of the Acro HD already out in Japan. This is also water-resistant with a slightly less note-worthy IP55 certification, but makes up for it with a more impressive spec sheet.

Highlights include a 4.3-inch display with a 720p HD resolution, 1.5GHz dual-core processor and a whopping 12-megapixel snapper.

Sony said the handsets are designed for “consumers looking for premium specifications and beautiful design with extra durability and water resistance”.

“Xperia go and Xperia acro S have scratch resistant mineral glass displays and meet industry standard International Protection ratings for protection against dust and water immersion,” it added.
Alas, both handsets run on the creaky Gingerbread edition of Android. It’s unclear whether an upgrade to the latest Ice Cream Sandwich is in the pipeline but we’ll let you know as soon as we find out.

A specific release date is as-yet unconfirmed, but according to Sony they’ll both phones land some time in the third-quarter.
