Xperia Play owners looking forward to getting a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) on their smartie might have to look for their kicks elsewhere, after Sony seemingly canned plans to update the phone to the newest version of Android.
The eagle-eyed types at Electric Pig have clocked that Ericsson's former mobile partner has updated its list of phones set for an update to ICS. And rather worryingly the Xperia Play, which was previously present and correct, is now missing.
Assuming it’s not a mistake, the decision to leave the Play out is likely to cause real consternation. Not least because, given that the handset is just over 15 months old, owners are surely well within their rights to expect an update.
It’s not clear what might have caused a problem with upgrading the phone to ICS. However, the fact that the Play packs a relatively underpowered 1GHz processor could be at its root.
If you’re the owner of a Xperia Ray, Xperia Pro or Xperia Arc, fear not. If the list is to be believed, you’re still in line for your platform bump.
