Sony Xperia S owners looking forward to an imminent operating system update have been left disappointed, after the phone-maker was forced to delay the upgrade.
Ericsson’s former partner had previously indicated it would make the latest Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android available in late May or early June.
Not so. Today, a post on its official forum reveals it won’t be along then after all. For reasons the Sony rep doesn’t make entirely clear, Xperia S owners now won’t be getting ICS until the "latter part of Q2".
That suggests a due date of late June to us, or nearly eight months since the first ICS powered phone landed in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in November last year.
It’s also worth noting that the platform bump will initially be available for unlocked Xperia S phones only. Those of you with network-branded handsets bought on monthly contracts will have to wait a bit longer while your carrier ensures that the update works with its proprietary services.
