VLC, an open source media player for PC, Mac and other operating systems, could soon be making its way to Android, maker VideoLAN has teased via Twitter.
“Android, here we come!” – that’s all the tweet says, but it doesn’t take a neurosurgeon to deduce it’s almost surely the massively popular cross-platform player, which, to the best of our knowledge, plays virtually every video and audio file format known to man.
Transcoding videos to the ‘correct’ formats has always been a source of irritation for mobile users. With smartphones today offering massive storage and expandable memory, this has become almost unnecessary. So having a well-known universal player on board could be a major boon for Android in enhancing its mass-market appeal.
Unfortunately we don’t know for sure if it’s VLC, let alone when it will land. But as soon as we do, you’ll be the first to know.
