LG Optimus 4X HD quad-core monster landing in August, confirms Carphone Warehouse

The LG Optimus 4X HD will finally hit store shelves in the UK next month, Carphone Warehouse has confirmed.

The retailer has updated its ‘Coming Soon’ page to reveal an August ETA for the handset, as it arrives fashionably late to the quad-core party, joining the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X to sate Blighty’s growing appetite for brawnier handsets.

Highlights of LG’s flagship kit for 2012 include a 1.5GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset, with a fifth ‘companion core’ that runs less resource-hungry tasks to conserve battery life, a 4.7-inch IPS LCD panel with a 720p resolution, an eight-megapixel camera and 16GB of on board storage.

Although it runs the semi-latest Ice Cream Sandwich edition of Android out of the box, an update to the latest Jelly Bean iteration should be rolled out soon after launch. There’s also a microSD slot for additional storage of up to 32GB.

The 4X HD will be available in black and white colour variants and is likely to cost around £480 for the unlocked version. Contract prices have yet to be revealed, but we reckon they’ll start at £35 with a free handset.
