The latest version of Android will land on the Samsung Galaxy S3 at the very end of August, it has been claimed, leaving just under two weeks until owners can get on board with Jelly Bean.
Recent reports suggested that Android 4.1 was scheduled to be made available for the S3 on August 29th. However, if Sam Mobile’s sources can be believed, the update now looks to be coming a little bit later on August 31st.
The mooted due date applies for handsets bought SIM-free. Punters who bought a network-branded S3 on a monthly contract will have to wait a while until their carrier carries out tests and ensures Jelly Bean works with its proprietary services and approves it for release. All of which has been known to take months.
At least when it does arrive it promises to be worth the wait. The site, which has been playing with an unfinished build of Android 4.1 on the S3, confirms that features it will bring to the phone include a revamped notifications bar and Google Now.
The latter, which combines search, voice commands and GPS in a kind of Siri-style personal assistant app, will sit alongside Samsung’s own Siri-challenging S-Voice.
