Samsung Galaxy S3 owners won’t have long to wait now to get their dose of Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), the phone-maker has pledged.
The South Korean tech giant promised it plans to bring the latest version of Google’s OS to the S3 ‘soon’ during its product showcase at this week’s IFA tech expo.
Good news, eh? Undoubtedly. But before you get too excited, it’s worth noting that the ‘soon’ due date to which Samsung refers most likely applies to unlocked versions of the S3 which were bought off-contract.
Those of you who grabbed the S3 on a pay monthly deal will almost certainly have to wait a while longer, while your carrier conducts compatibility tests and ensures the new version of the OS works with its proprietary services.
Some of the features the update is set to bring when it does arrive make it worth the wait, though. Among these are the Siri-rivalling smart search-cum-voice commands app Google Now that will sit alongside Sammy’s S-Voice equivalent and a wholly revamped notifications bar.
