The fabled black edition of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is very, very real indeed and will land in September, a UK retailer has revealed.
Rumours that Samsung is readying a new colour variant stemmed from a photo on the company’s official blog, seemingly showing a natty-looking all-black S3 pictured at the Olympic Village in London.
However, the lack of an announcement from Samsung, coupled with its steadfast refusal to confirm whether the phone was destined for a release, suggested that what we were looking at was most likely a limited edition for Olympians, who were granted use of S3 handsets for the duration of the Games.
Today, a UK site Mobile Fun has apparently removed any doubt about wider availability by confirming that not only is the black edition making its way to retail, but that it’ll be here within “4-6 weeks”.
The site is already taking preorders, with pricing exactly in line with the standard pebble blue and marble white editions. That means you’re looking at an outlay of £500 or so for the 16GB iteration.
Mobile Fun’s announcement comes after leaked inventories from a source at Carphone Warehouse added to speculation that Samsung was planning to bring new colour variants for the S3 to market.
