In news that will surprise no one, the entire pre-order shipment of the iPhone 5 has already sold out, O2 has officially confirmed.
Unveiled amid much fanfare last week, the iPhone 5 has been available to pre-order since Friday. And unless you've got your order in already, you'll now wait to wait until it officially goes on sale later this week.
O2 said: "All our pre-order [stock] has been snapped up. Check back on launch day, Friday 21st Sep."
Although a specific figure wasn’t forthcoming, Apple confirmed that more than two million people have pre-ordered the iPhone 5 in the first 24 hours, doubling the figure achieved by the iPhone 4S last year.
The tech titan is said to be “completely blown away” by pre-sale demand, while US network AT&T revealed it is the fastest-selling iPhone it has offered yet.
Features and improvements the iPhone 5 brings include a slimmer, taller anodised aluminium casing that measures an impressive 7.6mm thick and houses a larger, four-inch display, an A6 processor that’s twice as powerful as last year’s model and 4G LTE support for super-fast browsing speeds.
Also on board is the latest iOS 6 operating system, a new PassBook app that stores boarding passes, vouchers and whathaveyou in a single, secure location, and last but not least, a new ‘Lightning’ dock connector that’s four-fifths the size of the old 30-pin port.
