Lock screen wallpapers with Live updates will be among the improvements that’ll be on board Windows Phone 8, images of the latest OS refresh suggest.
Screenshots released by Nokia Innovation (an unofficial portal) reveal what appear to be Live wallpapers for Bing and a sports updates and news updates lock screen. Although the site couldn’t say for sure whether these are built-in features or third-party additions, they do look pretty neat, we must say.
Microsoft is due to take the stage today in San Francisco at 5pm GMT to officially lift the lid on Windows Phone 8, having announced it way back in June. The Redmond software-maker has remained tight-lipped about the OS that could finally propel Windows Phone as a bona fide challenger to Android and iOS.
The first wave of handsets rocking the new software include the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820, HTC's Windows Phone contenders, the 8S and 8X, and the Samsung ATIV S – all of which are set to land next month (actual release dates may depend on countries and network).
Last week, Microsoft released the Windows 8-powered Surface tablets, its first tilt at in-house hardware, as the software giant bids to take on the iPad and a slew of Android slates in what's still a fairly nascent market.
