Owners of phones running Android 4.2 are unable to add December birthdays to their contacts, it has emerged, after a shaming glitch was found in the latest version of Google’s smartphone operating system.
In an oversight that makes you wonder what beta testing is actually for, December is missing from the built-in People app, so it’s now impossible to schedule birthday or anniversary reminders.
The flaw was first brought to light on Android forums to a gently amused response from those affected. One particularly waggish tech watcher even theorises that Google may have “bought december 2012 as a marketing strategy so people can't purchase millions of iPad minis for Christmas”.
Google is purportedly aware of the glitch but has yet to issue any kind of official statement to those affected. However, the fact that the flaw is fairly minor, despite its scope to cause embarrassment for Google, ought to mean that a fix via an update to Android 4.2.1 ought to be available soon.
