iOS 6.0.2 update causing low battery life on iPhone 5 and iPad mini, owners complaint

A new update to Apple’s iOS operating system is apparently causing more harm than good, amid complaints it is adversely affecting the battery life on the iPhone 5 and the iPad mini.

iOS 6.0.2 was released two days ago to address problems connecting to Wi-Fi networks on aforesaid devices. However, it seems that while it had the desired result, it also had an undesired one: a faster than usual drain of power.

While there’s no hard evidence just yet, the prevailing theory is that the extra strain on the Wi-Fi radio to establish and maintain a connection is likely the reason behind the reduced battery performance.

The rollout itself had a less than smooth start due to Apple’s update servers becoming inaccessible intermittently. However, that’s probably a blessing for those who didn’t manage to upgrade in the end and it would be advisable to wait before trying again until Apple fixes whatever’s causing this problem.

Fortunately, as the update is only intended for the iPhone 5 and the iPad mini, older devices need to worry of being impacted.

Have you experienced any issues with your iPhone 5 or iPad mini since updating to iOS 6.0.2? Be sure to tell us in the comments section below.
