EE 4G coverage extended to 9 more towns

EE has today extended the reach of its 4G network to take in a further nine locations across the UK, offering residents mobile internet speeds up to five times faster than 3G.

As part of EE’s ongoing rollout of 4G, its service is now available in Bolton, Chelmsford, Southend-on-Sea, Sunderland, Sutton Coldfield, Amersham, Stockport, Wolverhampton and Hemel Hempstead.

Olaf Swantee, EE Chief Executive Officer, said: “As the first operator to bring 4G to the UK it is important that we make it accessible to as much of the population as possible, as quickly as possible.

“We continue to bring superfast mobile to more and more people, whether their using their devices outdoors or in their homes and offices, and to increase the speed and consistency of our 4G and 3G network across the UK.”

The extension, which arrives ahead of schedule, brings the number of locations served by EE’s 4G network to 27 and means that some 45 per cent of the population can now get 4G.

Rival carriers, which are currently engaged in a bidding war to for 28 lots of 800MHz and 2.6MHz frequencies, are expected to launch 4G offerings later this year.
