Snaps purporting to show the rear of the iPad mini 2 have materialised on the internet, as 2013 shapes up to be one of Apple’s busiest-ever for new products.
Sourced by Chinese site Weiphone, the images depict a silvery backplate that it’s claimed is earmarked for the tech giant’s second-generation micro slate.
Assuming it’s the real thing – and we’ll admit that the disconcertingly blue Apple logo instantly makes us raise a quizzical eyebrow in its direction – the iPad mini 2 looks to be somewhat bulkier than the current model.
That’s a very firm indictor that rumours that the slate will pack a Retina display are very much on-the-money. Especially given that the last time Apple increased the girth of an iPad was when it added a Retina display to the standard-sized model.
The leaked images have surfaced after separate reports revealed that the iPad mini 2 could feature a pixel density of 324 pixels per inch (ppi). This would make it the sharpest display so far on an Apple tablet.
Expected to land as early as next month, the tablet is just one of the devices that speculation suggests is in Apple’s crowded 2013 product pipeline, including a new iPhone, a cheaper handset and its first-ever phablet and smartwatch.
