The next flagship Galaxy S smartphone from Samsung could leave out the electronics giant’s own CPU and screen for parts sourced elsewhere, reports suggest.

According to a leaked “official” spec sheet courtesy of an insider, the Galaxy S4 will not rock Samsung’s Exynos system-on-chip due to alleged “overheating issues”. It will instead feature a Snapdragon 600 quad core chipset from Qualcomm, which recently debuted on the HTC One - although on the S4 it’ll be clocked marginally faster at 1.9GHz.

Recently we revealed that Samsung might use Qualcomm’s LTE enabled chip on the US variant of the Galaxy S4, just as it did with the Galaxy S3. However, if the Exynos processor has an inherent flaw with heat management, it might not even show on the international version.

Assuming the information is accurate, this will be a major blow to Samsung fans who were no doubt looking forward to the Galaxy S4 featuring the S-giant’s new eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor that was officially unveiled in January’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Worse yet, the leaked specs also reveal that the Galaxy S4 will ditch a Super AMOLED display, which has become a hallmark of the Galaxy range, for a SoLux panel. Fortunately, this still comes at 4.99 inches - which is just of the five-inch screen that's been mooted for the device - with a full HD resolution.

At least it won’t be too long before we find out for sure, as Samsung has already begun sending out invitations to an press gathering in New York on March 14th where the Galaxy S4 is sure to be finally unveiled.

Elsewhere on the feature sheet, the Galaxy S4 is mooted to pack 2GB of RAM, a physical home button with touch-sensitive menu buttons and a plastic back (with removable battery cover) with aluminium sides.

There’ll be three variants of 16, 32 and 64GB of storage, plus two colourways: black and white.

Keep ‘em peeled as we bring you more Galaxy S4 news and leaks in the weeks to come.
