HTC Desire P & Desire Q unveiled & specc’d, run old version of Sense

Two new Desire-branded phones from HTC have been outed online, as the beleaguered gadget-pedlar nods to its past as Android top-dog at it bids to map out a future for itself in a smartphone landscape now dominated by Samsung and Apple.

Images of the handsets and bare bones tech specs were uncovered by 4ndroid Taiwan and reveal the kits to be aimed at the mid-range and low-end markets.

Interestingly, if the images can be believed, both phones appear to be running the older version of Sense rather than the edition that debuts with the HTC One and features Windows Phone-style live tiles to constantly update news and social feeds on the homescreen.

Packing a 4.3-inch WVGA display and 1GHz dual-core processor, the Desire P’s mid-market credentials are further underscored by its eight-megapixel camera, Beats Audio technology and expandable memory via microSD card support.

Apparently intended for more cost-conscious consumers, the Desire Q packs a slightly smaller four-inch screen and also features Beats Audio tech.

The phones are expected to launch in China first, with the Desire P on sale for $365 (£240) and its stablemate up for grabs at $235 (£155 or so).
