Nokia’s latest smartphone challengers have gone on sale in the UK, offering the LiveTiles of Windows Phone, advanced social networking capabilities and the handset-maker’s highly rated mapping software.
Featuring the bright colour options that have become the trademark of the Lumia series and coming in at 9mm-thick, the Lumia 720 is the higher-end option with a spec sheet that takes in a 6.7 megapixel camera and a 4.3-inch ClearBlack touchscreen.
Billed as the ‘fun smartphone’, the Lumia 520’s standout features are its four-inch IPS touchscreen, a five megapixel rear-mounted camera and measures a still- pretty-svelte 9.9mm.
Both phones offer live updates from social networking sites and news feeds sent directly to the homescreen, as well as Nokia’s highly rated HERE Maps mapping solution.
The handsets, which feature screens that can be used with gloves and even register inputs made with long fingernails, also include access to Nokia Mix Radio, which provides owners with a library of free-to-steam music and the option to access playlists offline.
As with all Windows Phones, Lumia handsets offer a choice of tens of thousands of apps from Windows Marketplace.
