HTC’s First, the Facebook Home-packing smartphone, will not be launching in the UK. The social network has pulled the plug on the device after a series of bad reviews and sluggish sales across The Pond.
EE was due to sell the device exclusively on these shores. In a statement, the network said:“Following customer feedback, Facebook has decided to focus on adding new customisation features to Facebook Home over the coming months.
“While they are working to make a better Facebook Home experience, they have recommended holding off launching the HTC First in the UK.”
It’s a massive blow for Facebook, which made a huge deal about the handset when it was revealed alongside its Facebook Home Android skin at the start of last month.
The layover app has received a mixed response from users, with reviewers on Google Play split over its pervasive functionality.
Having seen the US price slashed to stimulate demand, it now appears the HTC First will be bracketed alongside Microsoft’s infamous Kin and HP’s Pre 3 as phones that failed completely from the off.
